Kiruba Shankar – CEO of Business Blogging, a digital entrepreneur, author, teacher, social media consultant, podcaster and none the less a farmer. Kiruba had celebrated ‘SMDAY 2015’ in Pune during which he shared his views on ‘Why Blogging is important for brands and how to master it’ and this year, we look forward to hear his views and experiences on importance of ‘Podcasting’ for brands.
An extract of a quick chat with Kiruba before the event-
What shift do you see from early digital days to now?
“Early days of digital were one way communication, you’ll have blogs where you typically convey your point of view across, and so it was really broadcasting. But now there is a lot of interactive thing that is coming in. So the focus now is interaction and making a two way communication”
“Also, content generation – Earlier it was only the professionals who can produce content and talk about it, as they were seen as experts but now from a college student to a professor has the right to go and talk about their point of view”
Things a startup/ new brand should focus on?
“For a startup, where funds are a restriction, the traditional types of advertising and media outreaches are clearly out of their question, so for them the best way to do is leveraging the talk leadership – what are you good at? Why someone should really spent their time of the day to come and listen to you and use your product/services? The best way to do that is sharing your knowledge and conveying everything you have and making it useful for your audience. Its then the people will come back to you and have confidence in your credibility.”
During the event, Shankar talked about the Podcasts, which are a new thing catching up everyone’s attention. He said that, “Podcasting is a potent original content generation mechanism. Audio podcasts in particular are a wonderful multi-tasking medium and is great for listening when you are on a run, walk or driving. It’s a good storytelling medium and something that brands should seriously look into.”
Apart from that, Snapchat too is becoming pretty popular and its usage has skyrocketed in the last year. “These are the platforms which brands should seriously look into”, he concluded.
An interesting insight into the new age content management and engagement is what we take from his talks this year. The tweets say the rest:
